Could you please tell me, when it is sold next year, whether Windows
Vista will allow a user, when he pushes the power button on his
computer, to access a fully loaded desktop at a much faster pace than
Windows XP is currently allowing? Thank you very much.
Five points:
1.Windows Vista doesn't exist yet, and anything anybody can tell you about
it now is just a guess. It may be an informed guess, if the person has seen
the current beta versions, but it's still a guess. *Anything* in Vista can
change between now and the release date.
2. If you find Windows XP to be booting slowly, you are very likely either
infested with malware or you have many background programs starting
autoimatically. Both of those situations can be addressed, if you want to.
3.The issue of boot time being slowed by background programs starting
automatically is likely to be identical in Windows Vista. It's something
within the user's control, not that of the operating system.
4. My personal view is that the attention many people pay to how long it
takes to boot is unwarranted. Assuming that the computer's speed is
otherwise satisfactory, it may not be worth worrying about. Most people
start their computers once a day or even less frequently. In the overall
scheme of things, even a few minutes to start up isn't very important.
Personally I power on my computer when I get up in the morning, then go get
my coffee. When I come back, it's done booting. I don't know how long it
took to boot and I don't care.
5. If you think you're addressing Microsoft here, you're not. This is a peer
support newsgroup. We are all just Windows XP users here, helping each other
if and when we can. We are not Microsoft employees (not even those of us
with "Microsoft MVP" behind our names; that's an honorary title for having
provided consistently helpful advice) except for an occasional employee who
posts here unofficially on his own time.
