Bah. So much for a good christmas in retail. No one is going to build a new
computer using Windows XP when Vista will be just around the corner. I have
nothing more to say about this.

"Windows Vista Release Pushed Back Until After Christmas"

Whats your source? I heard November was the offficial date and that XP (non
business versions) will be effectively obsolete as of December 31 2006.

It seems absurd in speculation that microsoft would allow only a month to
upgrade an OS before redundancy (never mind the hardware needed to support
it) but that M$ would null the old OS before the new one comes out? I hope
not, if so looks like I'm finally switching to a MAC.

half of this year..." march 13 2006

Hey, by the way does anyone know if Microsoft will offer any (heavy
quote)"reasonable" upgrade offers to newly bought XP systems?

1) It's been all over the news since Tuesday.
2) Is this a good enough source for you?

i highly doubt it, but then again, they did offer an upgrade from 32-bit xp
pro to the 64-bit xp pro for i think, like $10, for about a month after it's
release. The smart people didn't take them up on the offer. It's always a
possibility i guess.

Considering my reply to you was met by such disregard by others and you were
the most polite I have to say thanks for the courteous reply, I kinda figured
MS wouldnt offer much incentive (other than cutting off support for older
systems).

I did a bit more prodding and found the original MSDN news release site
saying the OEM is out in November, Retail is in January.

Even with Microsoft putting the news right 'out there' I'm surprise there
are still so many web sites posting bad "new news" about the speculative
release dates. Its silly.

Still no idea when the XP redundancy date is, just says when "Vista is
released" , I heard they were cutting it off in December then I hear support
will run 8 months past release. I lost interest really, I 'll just take what
comes I guess. .

What else is new? you get that with every single version of windows out
there... why stop now?

Hey no problem Brandon. You wouldn't still have the link to where it said
that OEM should be released in November do you? My company is a system
builder and I am curious to know if I can get my hands on a copy in November
instead of having to wait until next year.

OEM is *not* out in November.
Business release is November.

Read the articles posted in this thread.

I wrote to Microsoft expressing my concern over support for XP.
They informed me that they will be extending mainstream support
for XP home for two years after release of Vista. They also referred
me to this page:

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
