is it true that vista has a lot of bugs yet and that it will crash your
system

Every OS has bugs. You have to do some preparation and research to get a
successful upgrade. I've been running it on this system since November,
Ultimate RTM, with not a single crash, blue screen or significant problem.
This system is almost 5 years old, P4 2.53 GHz, 1 GB RAM. Some people have
had problems, and it appears they are mostly on specific motherboards and
concern certain drivers.

If you want some specific advice post info on the computer, the hardware,
and the configuration.

I've had several crashes in the last week since I installed Vista. They
sort of happen when I'm switching users. Most of the time it works okay,
but every now and then Vista just dies and my PC does a full reboot. It's
most annoying. I did a clean install of the Vista Home Premium Upgrade
edition.

True for some, not for others... I am one of the "others." Been running
Vista Ulitmate RTM on a couple of boxes here since November and they've been
very stable. Not saying it doesn't have bugs, but it hasn't crashed the
systems here on which it has been running. But... I have not tried legacy hw
on these systems. Drivers, or lack thereof, are a major source of
problems/crashes.

I have also had it since Jan 30 and it has not crashed. My reliability
rating is well above nine and is much higher than it was in the betas
(which were very stable) but obviously it is causing trouble with some
users. In all honesty, none of us here really know how Vista is doing
on a large scale, compared to let's say, XP when it came out. So you do
have to be cautious. Here is a self-test. How comfortable are you with
backups? If Vista trashed your system and you had to get back to XP in
three hours (or 24 hours or whatever,) could you do it? With all data
and programs and drivers up and running? Many people here have played
with the betas and reinstall OSs all the time and it is second nature.

Also have you checked for Vista compatibility with your programs and
hardware?

Vista crashes every time I start my computer. On second boot attempt, it
will usually go.
Sound used to stop working alltogether if my computer was on for a few
hours, so I installed the XP drivers for it, and that seems to work pretty
good for me. Vista doesn't seem to like people installing drivers for
anthing...it gets rather crashy!
