this error started after I installed Service Pack 1 from Microsoft
 
Ty changing the SMTP port from 25 to 587.

By any chance, are you using a laptop away from home?
 
tried changing from 25 to 487 got a different error

I am using a desktop
 
587 same error
But I found that my spyware is intefering with the outgoing mail.
If i shut it down email works ok

Yes, third party security software is often responsible for problems
with Windows Mail.
