When my mp3 player is connected to the usb port I get the found new hardware
wizard. The wizard wants to install drivers for an MTP device and it starts
searching, internet, cd, does not matter, but fails and it says the service
did not respond to start or control request in a timely fashion. Ihave tried
the following :At the cmd prompt I tried: net stop umwdf it says the service
is not started net start umwdf it says the service is starting the service
cannot be started the service did not report an error.

You know that it may be very helpful to the readers of this post if you would
furnish the brand and type of MP3 player this is about. Does it have an
installation CD
for you to install it? Also, have you checked the manufacturers website for
assistance? Better yet, is there an accompanying brochure or users manual?
Have you read it?

The player is iriver h320. Per the manual, which I had already read, no
installation of drivers is necessary for windows xp. Yes I have contacted
iriver and in 2 weeks they have yet be able to provide a solution. I should
have posted more information the 1st time. I have turned to this discusssion
group after working on this for 2 weeks without solving the problem. The
issue I belive here is why a service will not start. It just so happens that
it is a service that the iriver h320 needs to work with windows media player
10. The player works with the data port and you can drag and drop files.
Music that is DRM must be placed on the player through windows media player
10. So right now I cannot put DRM music on the mp3 player.
