My system has been trying to install the same update for at least a month now
but everytime it tries, it fails. This is a problem because it lengthens the
shut down time on the computer immensely because any time I choose to turn it
off, it tries yet again to install the update. If I do it through the icon
in the system tray, it will initialize and then I'll get this message:
Failed to install:
Update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB913800)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 3
(KB887998)

Is there anyway I can fix it so that it will install or else make it stop
trying to install that update? Any help would be much appreciated.

I think everybody has been fed:-)
Things that quiet in updates? - so you popped over to collect the odd stray?

If not, are you *prompted* to install the update or does the system state
that the update will be installed on Shutdown ?

For the .NET Framework update, see this page -

You'll be OK as long as you don't wander into IE general at the moment.

Since IE7 was released I figured it would be *much* calmer in here.
Apparently my theory is correct. :)

<lol> You're right there Mow, it's mad in there at the moment I can't keep
up <g>
Joan

PS: I haven't even done the IE7 thing yet <g>

pps: Me, either. I'll wait till all the bugs/vulns of IE7 and FF2 are
shaken out first. The whole install "dance" for IE7 puts me off -

My thoughts as well, I've never had to uninstall any security before to
download and use something and I'm damned if I'll start now <g>

PS: I use Maxthon, I know it runs on the IE engine but I'm happy sticking
with what works for now.
