I have recently installed Windows Service Pack II...however subsequent
updates have down loaded but totally fail to install. No error messages.
Troubleshooter was no use at all. So now have a pile of updates on my
machine (somewhere??) ready to install but cant run them in.

I did downloaded one and ran it in manually and that worked ok...but really
need automatic updates to be working...

Have Norton Internet Sec 2006 installed and MS Antispyware Beta installed
and running.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rick

If no error messages are given how do you know the updates don't install?

You might want to post your question to the experts in the Windows
Update newsgroup, and if you do so include some pertinent information
about the issue: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

Have you tried disabling NIS and or MSAS to see what happens?

I get the list of updates that failed to install...and when an update does
go in it is logged in the even manager...

So every time I rerun windows update with or without Norton or the
antispyware it just shoots through the 32 updates waiting to be installed
and reports a failure on each one. no other errors are showing, no error
codes etc.

So the questions are:
1) where are the downloaded updates put prior to installation?
2) Can they be cleared and downloaded again?
3) What services should be running on the machine for windows update to
function correctly?

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

Thanks for this reply. Will look through this in detail.

Perhaps I have been lucky to date, but in 2 years and several hundred PCs in
various states this is the first time I have hit anything like this...So
this problem has been quite entertaining so far :)

Rick
