Although I have automatic updates enabled I have nothing since March 16th
for Windows

When I accessed the Microsoft Update site directly today April 12th it found
an update for Office but for Windows it just searched endlessly.

Is there a blockage on the update site at the present time?

Don't use additional code, Windows/Microsoft/Automatic Updates, that
gives the OS patching process more ways to fail.

Thanks Carey, I added the lines to Trusted Sites as you suggested, however I
note that when I access Microsoft update it starts v6 so assume should add
this too. At the end found that MS Update site was blocked for UK users for
a time yesterday due to April roll out of security fixes.
BTW re Kurt's point I have auto install updates enabled in the inform mode,
not the install mode.

Not necessary.
At the end found that MS Update site was
blocked for UK users for a time yesterday due to April roll out of
security fixes.

And you see neither is adding Microsoft Update to your trusted sites
necessary.

BTW re Kurt's point I have auto install updates enabled in the inform
mode, not the install mode.

You don't need that code running in the background at all. Sign up for
MS's Security advisories and bulletins. You'll find out about patches
before Auto Update can.

And I stated, "Don't use additional code, Windows/*Microsoft*/Automatic
Updates . . . ."

Microsoft Update adds another unnecessary layer of code that adds
additional unnecessary risks to the OS patching process as much as Auto
Update does. But some people like the feeling they get playing Russian
Roulette while patching their OS.
