Get and install SP2

The SP2 won't upgrade on my PC. Part way through install the error message
"access denied" pops up. Then it uninstalls itself. In the mean while media
player won't run either. Before I reformat thought I would test the waters
for fixxes and/or similar accounts. Thanks in advance for any help.
