Why is Windows Update showing a driver update for Agere Modem, release date
Dec. 12, 2003? I updated my OEM Lucent Win Modem ( driver version 8.28.0.0,
04/18/2003) and lost my Fax capabilities. Also, there is NO info. available
for this update. Why??
 
If you are happy with the way the modem works now, you can elect to "hide" that particular
download.

Ok here is the reason you may just want that driver. If you are not having
the problem I am about the list and you are happy the way things are just
don't worry about it.

Here is why I got the download. If you happen to be running a modem built by
Lucent there is a possibility it will not work correctly on the internet
with XP. This happened to a friend aof mine and me too.

My computer worked just fine when I built it. I had no blue screens or
anything. Then a week later the first time I went on the net I automatically
crashed got a blue screen and rebooted. I sent the report to Microsoft and
they said I had a Lucent Modem driver problem. Well my manufacturer did not
have an update so I chanced the windows update instead of getting a new
modem. Well it worked and fixed the problem.

If you use high speed and do not use dial up or are not having the problem
you should be fine without getting it.

You can't using V4 of windows update. Along with SP2, V5 of windows
update came out. This has a much better user interface from which you
can choose to hide driver updates.
