How do I bring up the Windows Update program that has the exclamain mark in
the system tray with out logging off? I can go through help but that uses
Internet Explorer, not the other program I am after.

Internet Explorer *IS* the source of updates (unless you go to the
Microsoft web site and download the individual updates separately)
