Sometimes when I am on line I will see traffic through my connection, even
though I am idle at the time (I just received c.1.5 MB). Sometimes I get a
Windows Update shield in my task bar, sometimes I don't. Is there any way to
ALWAYS get this icon when Automatic Update is in action? I have disconnected
when I'm unsure what's coming in, only to find out next time I go on line
that "53% of updates" have been recieved.

The icon should always be in the system tray (notification area) in the lower
right corner of your screen. Could it be that it's hidden by the little <<
marks that hide the inactive icons?

If so, right click on the System Tray and select Properties. Then, select
the Taskbar tab and uncheck the box (near the bottom) that says "Hide
inactive icons".

I double checked the tray properties, and (as I thought) I do not have "Hide
Inactive Icons" checked. Tnx for the suggestion -- any other ideas?
