I downloaded and installed SP2 a month or so ago.
Every day for the last few days update.exe's been sitting in my system tray
attempting to download updates. It's got to 20% then stopped and
disappeared. Investigating a bit more, I found out from the WUpdate install
history that it has been attempting to auto download SP2 beta 2.
A visit to Windows update page led to me being advised to install SP2 beta
2.
How do I test to see which version I have installed? I'm pretty sure it's
version 2 already.
If so then why is it advising me to install something I already have and how
can I prevent all this mad activity every day?

One worrying thing, the update site tells me
"Warning: Do not install this build over a slipstream installed version of
XP SP2"
What the heck does that mean?

thanks

A slipstream is a installation of XP with the service pack
included
Perhaps you should uninstall the beta, roll back your
system, and wait for the final release.(it won't be much
longer, a few weeks)

If you really crazy to install SP2. Try to download the stand alone
installer (264mb). It works perfect for me.
