windows update problem

I updated windows xp. After the install I can no longer connect to anything. I called the tech at the cable company and he said that the modem is connected correctly and that there is a software conflict. Any ideas how to fix this? I went back and did a system restore and this did not work either.

Resources for Troubleshooting Modem Problems in Windows XP

If you know the Windows Update that caused the trouble, you could go
to Control Panel > add/remove programs and uninstall it from there.
