Your post is unclear. What do you mean by opens "in it self", and you're
clicking on a category where? Do you mean on the windows update site
reached through internet explorer?
 
where it says select by type high priority / software, optional / hardware,
optional I click one of those and then the same windows update opens up where
your supposed to select the updates to install it's really hard to explain
without pasting a picture which I can't do.
 
OK, relax, it does that. It clickity clicks itself. Anyway when you go to
Windows Update just do express not custom and you won't have to worry about
this. When Microsoft deems things to be necessary they add them to express
updates. Custom updates for Software & Hardware Optional items are for
experienced/advanced users. You should stay with EXPRESS updates my friend.
 
Except for acquiring the revised daylight saving time update for XP... For
some, its considered critical. No brain/rocket/IT science involved. Just
don't get the one for specific Western Australia if you live in the states.
