Windows Update hangs

When I try to download updates from the Windows Update
page, the program always hangs. I have tried to download
the updates several ways, but it always hangs. When I
try to manually download the updates, the hang always
occurs when it gets to the backup of the system state.

The updates will download fine but alway hang on the
install. I know I need to install these critical
updates, but the process never completes. Any ideas?
