thanks to a tip on Kelly's website.

I haven't been able to update since last November but the first one I
did was the recent blaster patch.

There are approximately 23 security and critical updates showing that
need to be done but my question is: should ALL of them be done and if
so just start at the bottom of the list??

It actually shows SP1 as one of the ones but I did that before the
update site bombed on me back when.

Very CONFUSING ...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA ...

Hi

Don't try and install them all in one go - 2/3 at a time will be useful if you come across any problems. You will then only have to uninstall 2/3 to find out where the problem may be. To see if you have SP1 installed - Start>Run - and then type in "winver" - without the quotes. The screen that appears will tell you if you have Service Pack 1 installed.

Yes, you should definitely install all of the Critical
Updates. You can install these all at once.

I also recommend installing the "Windows XP" and "Driver
Updates" as well, but these are less critical. You should
always keep up on Windows Updates.

You can review your Installation history from Windows
Update. If the SP1 fix is not listed, you may want to try
and install it again just to be safe.

Hi

You'll have to find out if SP1 is installed or not. If it is there will be an entry in Add/Remove Programs - 'Windows XP Service Pack 1'. Also, click on 'View Installation History' on the Windows Update page to check on the SP1 installation. If it didn't install properly you will see 'Failed' in the Status column.

If SP1 is installed - I don't see why you would have to uninstall it. Install the Critical/Security updates that are offered. If there are any Recommended updates offered you will have to see if you really want/need them.

Will,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I checked the winver and it was 5.1 build 2600. If I look at the
add/remove program in ctrl-panel it shows about 16 sp1 hotfixes so
something must be real wrong when it tried to install last year. I'm
wondering if I shouldn't uninstall all the sp1 hotfixes and start with
a new install of SP1.

Thanks again...
