Windows Update Fails

i cannot install any windows updates, they download ok, but all fail when they
try to install.
Does anyone know why,

I've got the same problem.

I get the standard notice that there are updates to install, it downloads
and then tries to install all of them and then is just says "The Following
Updates could not be installed" then it lists the ones (5 at the present
time, 3 a couple of weeks ago) that will not intstall. It gives no reason
for not being able to install them. This has been going on for a couple of
months for me.

I dont get error messages, just a useless trouble shooter, I had 38 critical
updates that downloaded ok, but failed to install, tried to update 1 at a
time, but didnt work either, i have managed to updtae some manually, but too
tired to continue.
very frustrating
