Windows Update FAILS

I'm having trouble installing windows updates. I have WinXP Pro SP1
After I have selected my desired updates and clicked the install button, the licence agreement popup FAILS to appear and the page reads "no updates were installed"
I've already tried (though I might have done it incorrectly):
1. Reinstalling ActiveX Control "Update Class
2. Renamed "Catroot2" folde
3. Re-registered Cryptographic Service DLL

Please if anyone could help, I would be so grateful
