I have been getting a "Windows Update Error" when scanning for available
updates. It shows 0% done and stops there for about a minute then displays
new screen called "Windows Update Error" which offers little or no help.
Anyone else getting this error? Could MS be down?

Hi Joseph,

This is the short version of steps to troubleshoot access problems:

Disable any/all of the following installed on your system:

- firewall (even the native one)
- antivirus software
- popup stopper
- download manager

Go to the Control Panel/Internet Options, click on "languages" and make sure
at least your default language is installed.

Check the Date & Time applet and make sure that the day/month, and
especially year are correct, if you are out of date by 90 days or more you
will not see any updates.

Add these sites to the list of trusted sites under Internet Options/security
in the Control Panel:

https://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://V4.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://Download.Windowsupdate.com

Then retry Windows Update. If this doesn't help, try more troubleshooters
here:

Thanks for all the suggestions, but no change.

I would like to thank those who offered suggestions. Microsoft came up
with the answer. It appears it was a corrupt DLL. They have me re-install
a service pak and that took care of it.
