Windows Update does not show list updates

In Windows XP, after you scan for updates it does show
that there are 14 updates (non critical) yet when you
click on the "pick updates to install" it reverts back to
the scan for updates. The same happens when you
select "view installation history".

Any ideas? An option set someplace?

Hello!
At the command prompt (Start/Run/CMD), type the following
commands, pressing ENTER after each line:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Then try the install again.
