I
Imploding
An hour ago I finished installing the 3 latest Windows
Security Updates on another computer in my home. I
installed the updates, rebooted as prompted and then the
fun started.
I got the boot screen as usual, then the black screen of
death. After about 3 minutes, my monitor displayed the
following message:
"Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows
Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
'r' gets me into the repair console, but I don't know
what to do from there. I'm not a programmer and I don't
know DOS. I can't get Windows to load, so I can't use
the 'System Restore' feature. And to add insult to
injury, Microsoft's 'free tech support isn't any of those
because I can't access the product ID number which is on
my now-dead-system. If anyone can help (before I pull
out what hair I have left) please e-mail me at
(e-mail address removed)
Thanks.
