Windows Update and other problems...

I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows xp pro and for some reason now my windows update won't work and i cannot log into certain websites, for example Yahoo Mail to check my mail...all i have heard anywhere is to delete my cookies and clear history and stuff in my browser which i have done numerous times, but nothing seems to help. i don't know why this is happening, especially if i just reformatted my computer.

when i try to do windows update it looks like the browser is not responding but if you wait for a little while then an error message comes up talking about how my time is not syncronized with microsoft's time and that is why it won't work...i have checked the time and date on my computer and it is correct and i have syncronized it again and again, but it doesn't ever help..

any suggestions would be very helpful
