Cancel that download and grab it directly. It hasn't started installing,
you won't hurt anything.

Direct Download of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP
http://snipurl.com/8bqy

Order the Free Windows XP SP2 CD
http://snipurl.com/8umo

Before you install it, look over the checklist:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

Staples is giving the SP2 CD away for free.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.

Reboot. (Shutdown and Restart)
Turn off your Automatic updates (temporarily) and then grab the Service Pack
via the direct download link above or order the CD.
Install SP2, turn back on Automatic Updates (believe me - it will prompt
you..) and you should be all set!
