Somehow in Windows XP Pro my Properties/Appearance/Advanced/Windows Text
font has changed to MS San Serif 8pt. Bold. It has always been Arial 8pt
Normal.
It causes some of my application dialog boxes to not display properly (font
is a bit too long).

How can I change that font back to what it was?

On Appearance - Windows Text, I can only chose a foreground and background
color... all other options are defeated.

Thanks for any assistance...

Right click on the Desktop. Select properties. In the "Desktop
Properties" dialog click on the "Appearance" tab then click the
"Advanced" button. Click on the any of the text in the sample window or
select the item to change in the dropdown list. Click OK to apply the
font changes.

Probably something has damaged the Arial font, and it is falling back on
a reserve. Put the CD in the drive, exit its Autorun, then Start - Run
the line
SFC /SCANNOW
to check and refresh all system files
