I need a way to change my windows taskbar color to red but don't want
to buy anything..any suggestions?

Do you have XP?

If you want to have a theme like luna (the blue default one) you can use a
patch
called UX theme multipacher that will enable XP to use non microsoft visual
styles.
Be careful though to follow instructions as the program says....
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/UXTheme-MultiPatcher.shtml

then you can try to find a theme (visual style) that is red.....

here are some examples of visual styles

Another site you might want to look at is this: http://www.deviantart.com/

There is also a program that will let you modify (color is changed very
easy)- create your own visual style. It is not freeware, and I cannot
mention it here to you because there are trolls and netcops that forbid free
speech and will start long threads and hypothetical "votes" to stop me from
telling you the name of the program.

What do you think? Should I just tell you the name of the program even
though its not freeware?

I think that I should only mention it as part of the general information I
am giving after warning him of the nature of the application. A reader might
not want it now, but in the future it might ring a bell when he IS looking
for a other ways to do what he is trying to do.

I am concerned with the task he is trying to accomplish... giving him
knowledge and alternatives is not a bad thing.

After offering him the freeware solutions I am just giving additional
information that is closely related to what he wants to do, that might help
him or others that are just casually browsing through the newsgroup or
searching Google groups.

Its better for him to have a global picture of what is possible or not
possible.
The fact is that this is my way of doing things. Even if someone does not
like this tactic, its ok...

I don't go around telling what other people should or not post.... as far as
the contribution is positive, its ok.

Please allow people to have their own personalities and ways of doing
things.

Ifeveryone keeps fussing about this.. I will have to tell you that I don't
like fighting and arguing.. I would prefer to leave...
than having flame wars and fights with people like corliss who I really have
no problem with.. as long as they leave me alone.

I come here to help and have a good time and feel good about helping people.
Perhaps I am a misfit by actually caring about
the poster and wanting to help him not only now but in the future.

Question: Don't some people have any other more menacing person to make into
an enemy and fight with? I mean there
are some pretty evil people out there.. why don't they pick on them? There
are far more important matters in the world,
use your energy on them and let me be.
