It seems I have 44 "things" being processed when I open the windows task
manager. There appears to be a bunch of useless processes happening which is
slowing my computer down dramatically. What is essential to have open and
not open? And if I end those processed, how do I prevent them from pooping
back up? One I caught and successfully deleted was a web rebate thing.

This site will maybe offer some info on the task manager startup objects and
what they do.

Start>Run>type MSCONFIG and click OK>click the Startup tab
Now uncheck/disable everything except your anti-virus program. If Norton,
it will start with NAV. Click Apply and Close. Reboot.
