When I try to start windows XP it says: Windows\system32\config\sytem - damaged or missing!!

It started whith a unexpected reboot (no reason)....then the message above appears when i start up the computer
It suggests that I repair it with the WinXP-CD....when i try to log on the windows directory (repair mode) it results in blue screen with the stop error: STOP: 0x00000050 (0xcdcdd738,0x00000000x0x80902376,0x00000000

Any help will be appreciated, thx

Try a boot into Safe Mode, by hitting F8 just before the "Starting
Windows" screen would appear (takes a bit of practice).
Choose LAST GOOD.

If the problem persists, try swapping current RAM (even if it checks
good) for a single, high-quality 512Mb chip. XP reportedly is sensitive
to memory timing.
