Windows starts wrong program

A problem occurs when I attempt to open a Word file. The file opens using
Notepad, and the file is unreadable. I can still open the file using Word,
and it looks fine. Can anyone tell me how to correct this?

Sounds like the association for .doc files somehow got screwed up.
Right-click on any .doc file and choose Open with. Scroll to and select
Word, then check the box "Always use this program..." and click OK. It
should work properly from then on.
 
Ok;

Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools , Folder Options
then the Tab File Type, then scroll down to the extension of the
file that opens with Notepad and highlight it. Now in the Details for _ _ _
Extenisions, Open With _ _ _ cilck on CHANGE in the next box
that pops up
pick the App. you want to open the file with. Then click OK on all.
