Windows Start/Run executing items not in the path, How?

Hi all,

I can execute iexplore.exe, firefox.exe and Netscp.exe all from Start/
Run and there is NO reference to them in the Path.

Where.exe cannot find them.

How are these recognized by the OS so that the can be executed without
a full path to the file?
