It was working a couple of days ago when I got the machine pre-loaded Dell
with Vista Business. I have installed two dozen programs so I don't want to
use system restore to go back to the beginning.

When I start the Windows sidebar from the accessories shortcut there is a
two second or so hourglass then nothing. It won't start on its own when
Windows starts. It also won't work if I create another user or use it in
safe mode.

Several have reported this problem, but as yet I've not seen any clear cut
solution, sorry.

Well, the sidebar is inexplicably back. Had an unexpected hard shutdown and
the subsequent reboot solved the problem. The previous hundred or so
"restart" reboots didn't do the trick.

M$ (and other Windows software vendors) as usual have a lot of work to do.

Sidebar won't run for me either. I just had an install of a windows update
and now sidebar shuts down with a DEP error on startup. I had this problem
now and then but now it seems to be permanent. Last update installed was
KB925902.

Windows Vista Home Premium, on Dell XPS m1710.
