I have Windows XP Home on my Dell Notebook. Sometimes I
receive this error that says "RPC Server unavailable" and
that the systems would shut down in 55 seconds or
something like that. I have always got this error when I
am on the internet (Cable modem). Please write back to me
if you have noticed an error like this and have found any
fix/info.

Thanks in advance!

Hello!
when you ping the server from the workstation by host name,
does the machine resolve the servers IP correctly?
try nbtstat -rr from a cmd prompt on the workstation.
if you are using lmhosts files make sure the IP -
SERVERNAME definitions are correct.
If you still face problem try this:-
1. remove the machine from the domain
2. delete the computer account on the pdc (and make sure
this change has time to replicate to the bdc(s)
3. delete the records of the machinename from WINS (make
sure this is replicated to all WINS servers by tombstoning
the record)
4. rename the workstation
5. add the workstation back to the domain

good luck!

Hi ssg!
Thanks for the reply. I am not trying to connect to
any server. Are you talking about my DNS server ? My
setting says "Obtain a DNS server automatically". I do
not have access to the DNS server to add or delete my
workstation from it.

So do you think this is a problem with my machine's
account on a domain controller ?

But what I fail to understand is why should the
workstation shutdown when there is a network issue like
this ?

Thanks again for your help!
