Hi,

I have installed XP Pro on my new SATA hard drive. I have
also installed Office and then went online to Windows
update and installed some updates. Now I get this shut
down window that pops up and shuts down Windows. I can't
stay on Windows more than 3 minutes and it happens every
time. Here is what the window says. "The system is
shutting down. Please save all work and log off. Any
unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated
by the NT Authority/System Time before shutdown:,"
Then it says below that, "Message Windows must
restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) terminated
unexpectedly"

Why is this happening and how do I get it to stop?

You`ve got the blaster.worm virus there is quite a lot of work involved to
make sure you don`t get it some up to date anti-virus and a firewall
blocking key ports before the PC ever gets onto the Internet is one option
search google for that - however if you have a computer that is already
protected download the MS KB824126 to disc and install it on all XP
systems - the latest version of the patch 824146 is available to download
here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7
so you don`t have to use Windows Update during which an unpatched open
system can get it.

What is werd about this is that Microsoft update is the
only place I have been on the internet. I don't even have
e-mail setup yet. I must have gotten it from Microsoft.

You didn't get it from Microsoft. The blaster worm spreads by checking for
an open port and installing itself on your machine.

Search this group for "blaster" or check out the descriptions of it on any
of the antivirus sites. Running a firewall, antivirus, and having the
patches for the operating system will prevent it from reinfecting you.
