hi-- i have windows XP, lately been fighting a virus problem by using help
off this board and running 'search and destroy'. now i get a weird side
effect:
windows will shut down certain application a second after they come up.
so for it happened with Norton, and if i go to 'start' -> 'run' -> and type
something it flashes for a second and disappears. please help? thanks

hi

probably it's not shutting them down, probably it's looking for something to
run the program that it can't find.

go to start/settings/control panels/administrative tools/event viewer and
look in all the logs to see if there are any errors.

also, it'd be a good thing to run ad-aware as well as spybot search and
destroy.. they find different things. you can get it at www.download.com

once spybot, ad-aware & antivirus all come up clean then start/run/cmd and
type in chkdsk /r c: (return) - it will probably ask you if you want to do
it on the next reboot. answer y. then type exit (return) and reboot.

this will make sure that you don't have any errors on the hard drive & fix
em if there are any. it could take a bit of time.

once that's done, reload from disk any software that still doesn't work.

good luck
