Hi, dont know if anyone can help?
After installing sp2 some programs did not work any more.
I did not use the add/remove (stupid, I know)
I tried to do a reapir by using the cd and booting up and
trying to re install windows over the top.
It did get through copying the files over on the blue
screen, but when it restarts and gets to the GUI it just
stays on 39 mins remaining and does not do anything.

Does someone know how to get around this problem?
I really do not want to have to do a new install, and get
rid of most my existing data that I cannot tranfer or I
cannot setup again because I cant find the orginal cd's.
Thanks in adavnce.

I suggest you can try to back-up the registry and try to put back-up copies
in place and boot to normal mode:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307545

If this is unsuccessful then your problem is not in the registry but in the
system files. I would suggest that you try a in place upgrade:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;[LN];315341

This will not affect your currently installed programs but, it will bring
you down to the Service pack level of the CD and you will need to patch you
O/S back to current status.

However if it doesn't work I suggest a parallel install:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=266465

The parallel will allow you to see the data and back-up or manipulate it as
needed. After backing up your data then go to your original install at
c:\windows\system32 and create a folder called backups. Ok Highlight all
the files in the root of the system32 folder NO FOLDERS YET and move them
to your backups folder. Now copy your files from the root of your Parallel
installs system32 folder to the original O/S's system32 folder. Again DO
NOT copy folders only files. Afterwards, reboot and see if you have
success logging on. If not got back to the parallel and rename the
c:\windows\system32\drivers folder to driversold. Next copy the drivers
folder from your parallel install to the system32 folder of your original
install. Reboot.

I know it can be a little confusing but highly successful.

Good Luck and have a nice day.
