I have just read there are more Windows Security Updates
that should be downloaded into my XP system. I am
concerned because I thought the Blaster worm or some
virus had been installed in one of the Windows' patches,
and that is how so many systems became infected, when
people downloaded the security updates. Instead of
protecting their systems, they infected them.

How safe are these Windows Security updates? I'm very
reluctant to install them in case they are a source of
computer infection.

Please advise,
Thank you.

Greetings --

You couldn't be more wrong. If people had kept current on the
security updates, they wouldn't have been infected with
W32.Blaster.Worm. The patch that prevents Blaster was made available
on the Windows Update site a _month_ before the worm made its first
appearance. To date, there has not been a single documented case of
anyone getting infected from the Microsoft Update site.

However, there have been many hundreds of thousands of people who
got infected because they did _not_ update regularly.
