Just installed Windows Vista and config a pop3 server with sbcglobal.net.

You haven't really provided enough information to get help. Give the
exact text of any error messages you are getting and give this
information in the body of your post, not in the subject line (where
many people won't read it).

Here are the mail server settings for AT&T Yahoo DSL:

Here is information about setting up your email client:

Use the information about setting up Outlook Express for Windows Mail.

You need to know your user account and password. If you don't know this,
then contact AT&T Yahoo tech support.

Go to Help | View Help and see about adding and removing accounts.

If you don't know your username and password, then contact sbcglobal.

checked with SBC and input all the UID and PW but on the "outgoing mail
server" tab the UID and PW keeps going back to the "incoming mail server" UID
and PW. Is this normal? I keep changing it with/o success...

Go to Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers | Settings and there
tell it not to user the outgoing as the same as incoming.

Now why couldn't you find that? <VBG>

I seem to be having the same problem as Bo, Windows security is asking for
uid and pw. I have tried everything under the sun including everything
suggested by steve and the pop up window continues to come up every time. The
strange thing is that this started happening after using my charter.net mail
connection for 3 or 4 months. Does anyone have a fix for this problem????
Thanks Mike Stein

This problem is often caused by interference from your
antivirus program. Windows Mail is not compatible with most
McAfee or Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.

Next, at your convenience, download and install a more compatible
antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

I doubt this problem has anything to do with any antivirus programs.

I have the same problem and I don't have any anti virus programs installed
yet on my laptop.

The problem is that Windows Mail fails to remember my username and password.
I've tried to resolve this two ways:

1) by selecting "Remember my credituals" when the Windows Security appears
and prompts me for my username and password. Next time I run Windows Mail
again, it will prompt me for the same information again. It's as if Windows
Mail never remembered my Username and Password in the first place. Once I
enter the Username and Password the program works fine. It's just annoying
because I like opening a progran and not having to log in at all. Windows
Mail apparently offers this feature but it's not working for me. And
apparently it doesn't work for lots of other users after reading many threads
is this forum. If you don't believe me, do a search under "username,
password, remember creditituals". There's lot's of threads on this problem.

2) under the Tools/Account/Properties/Servers tab I select "Remember
Password", then hit Apply, and then exit. Surprisingly if I were to check
this tab again, I will find the Password field blank. That doesn't make
sense. Who erased it? It didn't stick apparently?

This is a brand new laptop I got from Dell with Vista Home installed. It's
got about only 1 hour's time usage on it. I opted not to installed any
antivirus programs when I started. The only program I have installed was
Mozilla Firefox. Nothing else.

I called Dell and after much discussion their answer was "Windows Mail
program has an error in it which doesn't remember usernames or passwords."
That's hard for me to swallow seeing that there specifically is a check box
which says "Remember Credituals". Essentially they're blaming it on a glitch
in the software?

Help?? I'm about to give up and install Windows Live Mail like somebody
else recommended.

Most new PCs, even laptops, now come with an antivirus program already
installed.

Remember my credentials works for me only until I shut down and restart
Windows Mail, so you're not alone in this.

There's a quirk in Windows Mail that often makes it forget the password
if you click on Apply in the same session you select Remember Password.
Fill in the password field again.

In my experience, new laptops always come with a trial version of
Norton or McAfee antivirus. You may not have registered or activated
the antivirus, but if it exists on the hard drive, it can do damage.

If you can't make Windows Mail work to your satisfaction, you can
always upgrade to the better Windows Live Mail.
