Windows search suddenly quit working

Now when I search "All files and folders" it stops almost immediately and
does't find hardly anyting. It has always worked without any problem before.
What could cause this problem.
 
S. Sengupta, I have been having trouble with my own search functionality in
Windows Xp, Home Edition. When I use search, in any directory, it
immediately locks up and becomes unresponsive. I navigated to kelly's korner
and tried her indtructions but I still can not use search. Any other
options? Thanks.

Try this. It has worked for other folks.

1. Go to C:\Windows\srchasst or %windir%\srchasst and delete everything
that you can.
2. Start | Run | Paste this in the box and click OK...

regsvr32 /u %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

You will see a message like this if successful...
---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllUnregisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\srchasst\srchui.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

3. Go to C:\Windows\Inf or %windir%\Inf right click srchasst.inf and
click install.
