Windows Scan for updates stalls at 33%

I am trying to update my Windows XP Pro but when scanning
for updates on the Windows Update site the scan stalls at
33% and the program becomed unresponsive.

What kind of connection do you have and how long did you leave it? On a
modem, it's not uncommon for it to act like it's not responsive for maybe
1-2 mins.

You might be best off posting this to the experts in the Windows Update
