Windows restarts when entering a session

I can start Windows XP but after entering a user session (I have 3 users
defined) and after seeing some icons appear on the bottom right bar, the
screen goes blank and the computer restarts; the problem is that I can't get
to the "Start" button to look for the problem.
I think the problem must be with some program that is trying to load itself
when I start a session; is there a way of starting a Windows XP session
without any programmes loading at start-up and then adding them one by one
until I find the one that's responsible for the crash?
Many thanks for your help.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode by continuously hitting the F8
key until you see the boot menu.
Select Safe Mode and hit the enter key.
Once the computer starts in Safe Mode, go to Start -> Run and
enter msconfig in the Open box.
Click OK.
In the System Configuration utility, click on the Startup tab.
Uncheck all the entries.
Click OK.
Click Restart.

If the computer starts OK try putting the check marks back one at
a time to see which program is causing problems. If disabling the
startup list doesn't help, you might want to take a look at this
article for more info on using msconfig to troubleshoot startup
issues:

Good luck
