We have a Data Warehouse based on Oracle 8.1.7.4 on an
Alpha Server running True 64 Unix. The data of the Oracle
Warehouse are used thru Cognos Transformer to create a
number of Cubes. This configuration worka for almost 5
years. In the last weeks we face a peculiar problem. Every
windows machine (2000, XP ) that acccess the Database
either thru Cognos Transformer or thru MF Cobol with no
specific reason and at not a specific point reboots. No
errors in the event viewer. It does a normal reboot and
nothing else. The machines were checked for viruses and
also one of them was reinstalled from the beggining. The
problem remains

Any ideas?

Are you running Oracle client on the W2k/XP machines? If so, what version?
