Hi everybody,
I have an IBM machine type 6223-22y with 4 GB. When start the machine, in
POST I can see 4 GB memory, but when start the system, windows show only 3 GB.
I call IBM support, but they say, this is an Microsoft problem.
Some information:
- all memory DIMM are IBM
- all memory DIMM are ok => tested in other CPU
- Windows XP Professional (preloaded) with SP1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633)
- CPU: Intel Xeon at 3.6 GHZ
- Bios version (the last one at the moment): 1.33

Any ideias ?
Thanks for any help.

Take a look at ths page:
Comparison of 32-Bit and 64-Bit Memory Architecture http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294418 have you enabled the mentioned switch?

Yep, I also try change the boot.ini with the /3Gb .... and nothing. Same
problem.
This flag is only to devide memory in 3GB for application and 1 GB for kernel.

Thanks
Any more ideas ?

Show me on : My computer => Properties => General tab
Also in Explorer => Help => About Windows

Yes,
Lastest BIOS = 1.33 (please see my first message)
But .... same problem. Should I buy HP ;) ?

You have to be insane to trade an IBM for a HP. Why don't you just edit the
registry? You don't indicate any problem except a wrong indication of memory
size.

Also, how many memory cards do you have plugged in? Did you install? Is one of
them not seated?

Interesting ...
How can I change the registry, so when I go to MyComputer->properties, in
General tab, I can see 4GB instead 3GB ?

Thanks.

If I do:
Start-All Programs->Acessories->System Tools-> System Information, I can
see Total Physical Memory = 4.096,00 MB (4 GB) !!! So, all memory cards are
correctely seated.

But, in Mycomputer->Properties, in general tab, it show me 3GB .....
Any registry parameters to change ?

Thanks again

Marco

I wonder whether you can without causing problems. XP's default
is up to 2GB for applications plus up to 2GB for the system. It's
possible to change that to up to 3GB for applications and up to
1 GB for the system, yet not all applications support more that 2GB
anyway.

If you've got a AGP card expect to "lose" some memory, too. See
AGP Aperture for more.

Anyway. To find out which registry entries are of interest at all here,
if any, you might use regmon from www.sysinternals.com.

Hi All,
You are correct in 2 points:
a) WinXP by default, adress 2 GB for applications and 2 for Kernel.
But, in my case, I have changed the boot.ini with the /3GB switch. I can
adress memory up to 2.6 GB for my application (my app is configured to use
memory greather then 2 GB).
b) The AGP will use memory => yes but that dont explain 1 GB memory !
Remember that I have 4 GB physical memory : 2x1 GB + 4x512 MB RIMM.

My question about registry is: How can I,if possible, change the registry so
I can see 4 GB memory in MyComputer->Properties in General tab ?

Thanks everybody !
Marco
