Windows replacement?

A couple of months ago I came across a website where an alternative to
Windows was being developed, one that would run Windows programs
directly. Not Linux+Wine, but a built-from-scratch OS.

Google as I might, I can not find it again. Does anyone know the
address or name of the OS?

Thanks in advance,

Bill T.

Are you thinking of this one?

Yea;

It is a pretty amazing project, no doubt. What really gets me, after
reading on the project's history, is the /tenacity/ of the people
involved. This project has been going on for years and, currently,
they're going through a source code audit.

Considering that MS continues to change API's at breakneck speed, I'd be
daunted but the reactos people keep plugging away! When they get to
beta, I'll be there!

The last time I checked - a year or so ago - Lindows cost about as much
as WinXP. What would be the point?

That's funny, since there was no Lindows a year ago. However, it was
replaced by Linspire about two years ago.

There is a free live-CD available
(http://media.linspire.com/cnr_linspirelive/index.html). But either way,
I believe Linspire is one example of what the OP specifically did _not_
ask for, i.e. Linux with some Windows compatibility layer.

A feeble candidate for Nitpick of the Year. Try again.

Many years ago I was convinced that the WINE project was going nowhere
and they would never keep pace with the fast past of Windows
development being driven by MS.

I was pleasantly suprised when they finally delivered code capable of
running recent verions of Office with fairly decent stability.

It should certainly encourage the ReactOS developers. Just keep
coding!

Impressive...
Bye for now.
