I have just tried a windows repair from boot cd, it copied the files ok and
rebooted, went to windows and stopped. No mouse just a blank screen, it is
now calling me a liar and after 15 mins has just booted into setup screen,
preparing installation 39 mins est time. Problem is something is stopping
the machine from functioning correctly, it hangs for ages then just fires up
again. At this moment the setup has hung at 39 mins and there is no activity
from the pc even though the little green lights in the rh corner are moving
along. What has slowed my system up so badly. I have a high spec machine with
1gb DDram

DO you have anything plugged into the computer, like a printer, external
hard drive, camera, etc?

I have done that Mike but I keep getting prompted for asms file which cannot
be read from cd. I dont have a win 98SE disk so I cannot upgrade from that
