i recently reinstalled windows xp on my pc. Since the reinstallation my
sound card is no longer recognized or working or something. There is no
sound. And the picture on the monitor is huge. I can not change the screen
resolution becAUSE the option to do so in the control panel is shaded so i
can not choose that option. I need to increase the resolution but it wont let

Sounds like you need to install your audio and video drivers.

Alias

You may need to download the drivers for your sound and video card from their respective manufacturer's web sites.

Had that exact same video issue, downloaded the latest driver from vendor's
site and problem was fixed.
Also made sure the monitor was being recognized properly.

You need program files (drivers) for your
sound card
video/display adapter
monitor

If you don't know what make/model these are, d/load a shareware
program called hwinfo32 use it free for 14 days) from
http://www.hwinfo.com/html/download32.html. It will give you details
of the brand/make/model.

D/load the drivers from the company website. or from
www.driverguide.com (free signup required)
