I have deleted the c:windows directory on my computer and now cannot get on.
It opens up to my wallpaper and that's it. How do I fix this?

It's doubtful you deleted the entire \Windows tree. XP has a feature
called Windows File Protection that would replace any system files
that are renamed/moved/deleted.
From your description, it would seem more likely you've damaged
a part of filesystem specific to your user account/profile.

Have you tried logging in to Safe Mode and perform a System
Restore to a date/time before you made the changes.

I can't understand why it would even get to your wallpaper. C:\Windows
is where the operating system lives. If you delete that there's
nothing to boot into. You'll have to get the installation CD out and
reinstall your OS.

don't feel bad.
it happens all the time.....!?

you can fix it with a repair install via your
windows setup cd....

I have tried to open it with the windows disk but it won't do it. The pc
originally cam with windows 95 but my sister-n-law talked us into buying
windows xp. This version didn't work right, ie locking up, and so my wife
decided to delete the windows and reinstall 95. The pc boots up normally
except for when it comes to the actual windows and it only shows the back
ground. Also the screen saver comes on. How do I get booted up to where I can
fix this problem. Understand I am ignorant to computers. Thanks

how do I access this file? I think there is a way to go to dos before windows
loads but I don't know how.

to repair windows you
need your windows setup cd
then boot from it and it will
begin setting up "windows installation"
then select new install and it will
analyze your harddrive.
afterwards it will give you
the option to completely
reinstall windows or would
like the o.s. located on the harddrive
repaired. Select yes and your on
your way.....
