I purchased a computer windows pro xp from suntech, in CA. I can't find a
product ID for my windows, I need to format and reinstall windows xp pro, I
called the company and they told me, that they have no id # for me, so now
that I have a xp pro computer, without a xp window id number, what to do?
If I purchase a product a disk, then the computer cost me more than it would
have it if had no os, but it came with the above, just no way of finding out
the id from the computer suntech people, tell me they have none?
What a ripoff,,, oh well if any one knows my best route let me know

did they install an OEM version that is tied to the hardware? Did you not
get a Certificate of Authenticity? No sticker on the computer?
Call them back tell them if they cannot tell you what shows you have a
legitimate copy of XP you will call Microsoft and let them know you believe
they are selling computers with pirated copies of XP.

That all said just download the belarc advisor and it will tell you ID# from
the XP install

www.belarc.com go to download. It is a very handy utility free for home
use!

Hey William,

Is your computer still working? Even if it is working badly then you can get the serial number of Windows by runing this utility:

http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

When you run this utility, you will get two serial numbers on XP system: Operating System and Office Applicaions. You need to write these numbers somewhere so that you can reuse them whenever you need to. Microsoft will not help you as Bill Gates needs to catch up with 77 year old Chairman of IKEA (Swede I guess) who is the richest man on this planet at the present time. It seems people are tired of Bill's half finished products which are prone to constant attacks by hackers and which requires unlimited patches to keep his programers and his slaves (aka MVPs) busy.

If you want serial numbers for other products then try this site:

http://www.serialarchive.com/

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!
