Windows picture and fax viewer very slow to open

Noticed this a few days ago, possibly after the latest batch of updates. I
have a jpg on the desktop which is now taking about 10 times as long to
open.

Any ideas??

Theres something else going on here. But what??

From a googled article, someone discovered that if they had a broken link
on the desktop, it was affecting the opening time of the picture viewer.

I have a shortcut to a network folder on my laptop which at the moment is
off so link is temporarily dead. So as per the article I moved it off the
desktop. I opened the jpg and it opened immediately. I then put the
shortcut back and tried to open the jpg and again it took 10 times as long.

Any ideas anyone?
