I posted earlier about my windows picture and fax viewer
being broken. Unfortunately my post got pushed off the
first page without a resolution.

Here is a recap:

Nothing happens when i click on a picture. If I right
click and say preview, nothing happens. If I right click
and say open with Windows picture and fax viewer, nothing
happens. If i click slide show on the picture task bar,
nothing happens.

It seems as if the program is gone, but there isn't any
message telling me its missing and the computer thinks
that the picture is open or something. Just no
response.

Resonses:
go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

Also try...

"regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and %)

Results: if i run regsvr like suggested i get the message:
LoadLibrary("c:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll") failed -
The system cannot finds the file specified.

THe file is there and i replaced it from the windows disk.

help please!?

thanks a lot!

If the file is in your System32 folder...maybe it
would help to unregister it and then re-register it.
Did you rename the original file shimgvw.old before
you replaced it?

What happens if you run the following commands?

regsvr32 /u shimgvw

REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL

I did save it as .old before i replaced it. It gives me
the same error that the file can't be found when i try to
unregister it.

what now?

thanks

Might seem like a stupid question...but are you
positive that you typed the command correctly?

Try...Copy / Paste...

REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL

Sorry, but that's all I can think of.

Yes, i did type the command correctly. Is there some
service that is related to it that could have been turned
off perhaps?

thanks for your help
