Windows PE

I would like to post my wish to have Win PE available to
all Windows OS users for the purposes of setup and
deployment, programming and the furthering of
capabilities to explore modern Win OS environments.

For those in a like frame of mind, you may wish to pass
on your views to Microsoft so that they may consider
making Windows PE freely available to us all.

Steve Eccles

While that product looks good, it is not WinPE and is not
Microsoft-supported. It's a good alternative, but it would be nice to see
Microsoft allow WinPE to be used more widely.

Steve, I've passed your comments to my contact at Microsoft.

Regards

Oli

Steve,

Home Users have no requirement for access to Windows PE as they do not need
to build and deploy large numbers of PCs from CD media etc.
If you have a significant number of PCs to deploy to then you would be under
a volume license agreement and Windows PE would be available to you. As a
home user with 2 or 3 machines to deploy to, the tools supplied in the OPK
on the CD are more then sufficient to allow you to prepare builds.

Please mote Windows PE is not a programming platform or an OS for running
for more then a couple of hours. It is a deployment tool, so it would not
meet your requirements of "... the purposes of <setup and deployment>,
programming and the furthering of capabilities to explore modern Win OS
environments. ..."

Hi Mike

I agree with you up to the point where you imply that every company which
has enough PCs to need proper deployment tools has a volume license
agreement. I know Microsoft wishes this was the case, but it is not true.

As far as I can see Windows PE isn't available under all VLAs; only SA,
Select, Enterprise, etc.

Oli

Which is not PE nor is it Microsoft supported for use, and any system
deployed using it may be subject to support issues.
